Australia is a dry continent, but not everywhere!
Near Canberra you can visit marshes, fens, constructed lakes, or rivers.
If you want to see the mainland’s only cirque lakes, or the ocean, then you’ll have to travel farther. Further afield you can visit small glacial lakes, streams on the escarpment, coastal rivers, estuaries or the ocean.
Discuss the ecology of wet places in a dry continent. Why are there so few natural lakes? Where do they occur? What are the connections between wet and dry parts of the landscape?
